| The exterior was painted with Tamiya Yellow and polished out with no clearcoat. The emblems and the cavallino are from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland - you can find some really good stuff for the Ferrari modeler there, I highly recommend them. The wheels in the kit were wires, but most of the 275 series had Compagnollo alloys instead - it was one of the first Ferrari's to have allow wheels as a stardard item. Wire wheels were optional. I like the look of the alloy wheels, so purchased an aftermarket set from RnD Unique. They had to be drilled out and of course mounted, but I like the way they came out. The wheels were painted with Testors Magnesium. If I were to do it again I would use Allclad II instead. The spinners are pewter, also from RnD Unique. One thing I noted was that the tires on this kit were not very good. Very soft moulding, with undefined tread pattern. I'd replace it if I were to do another one.
Finally, the bezel around the headlights was foiled. I also foiled the windshield surround, and had to touch-up the front and rear bumpers to cover the spots where the chrome came off the sprue. |

| The engine was built mostly out of the box. I added ignition wiring from Detail Master, as well as battery hardware and cables. There's also a photoetched radiator cap. The nuts on top of the air box are also PE parts, from Scale Motorsport.
The underside of the hood has black "sound deadeding" cloth, from The Model Car Garage. This sets off the engine very well, I think. I enjoyed building this one. Italeri seems to do a pretty good job of capturing the lines of the Ferrari. I'll move on to the coupe eventually. And hey, if anyone has one of their SWB kits they'd like to part with, let me know! |
